DIY Piñata Fringe Photo Backdrop

Ladies, I looove party planning and decorating!  Buuuut, I don't love the price tags.  Here's a super easy DIY tutorial for a Piñata Fringe Photo Backdrop.  Including the $30 I invested to buy the rotary cutting kit on Amazon (for this and future crafty projects), I think I spent about $40 (so if you're using regular scissors you already have, it's less than $10 to make!) on this and it will be so cute with the other decorations.  Stay tuned to see everything put together tomorrow for the birthday party! 😍

First, I bought several colors of the plastic table cloths from Party City (the 54 in X 108 in work best for this project) -- at the time I ordered, they had a deal for 5 for $5 so be on the lookout for that!  The colors I used were:

  • Bright Pink
  • Orange
  • Royal Blue
  • Festive Green
  • Sunshine Yellow

Next, I set up my rotary cutting kit (linked above!) and began cutting 1.5" strips.  I did 25 strips of each color.  This is the most time consuming part of the project, so just make sure you set aside some time.  The rotary kit does save a ton of time, but scissors work just fine too!  With the rotary kit, it took me about an hour to cut all of the strips.

Then, you find something to hang your strips on.  I used some old lattice fencing we had laying around from a previous gardening project.  This worked really well and is super sturdy.  Many other DIYs use various types of string/twine and will just make multiple layers that way.

You'll tie each strip to whatever you're using.  I have a detailed description of how to tie them in the video.  Super easy!  For the look I was going for, I did 10 strips of each color at a time.  Then, I went down 2 rows and over two holes for a staggered look.  I repeated this to the bottom row with alternating colors and then went back and filled in the gaps on each row with random colors.  If you're going for a less staggered look (think more like a rainbow), just keep all of the colors in line with each other.

And voila -- you're done!

Some of these backdrop kits sell for $100+ on Etsy, so save yourself some money and get those creative muscles working!
